It's cloudy and cool for the first time in weeks and a perfect day to visit the Sassafras Fork Farm and our friends Kathleen, J.Ed and Stephanie Hall and Roxanne and Tate Little. We know Roxanne from Habitat and she graciously organized a trip out to the farm for all of us. A Huge thanks to them all!!!!
We started with the chickens as they were the closest. They have many and quite a number of varieties so you get brown eggs, blue eggs, green eggs, big and little eggs.
We headed to the "chicken mobile" to see if we could find some just laid eggs to collect...
between all four boys we ended up with a dozen! We put all those in a basket and headed over to the cows.
Then on down the road to the greenhouse. It's huge and has 5-6 very long rows filled with many varieties of tomatoes and peppers, cucumbers, ginger, market flowers, eggplant, and more. We picked tomatoes for our lunch:-). Everything into another basket and off to the tractor.
After an incredible lunch of BLT's and CLT's (cucumber, lettuce & tomato) for the vegetarians we headed out to Stephanie's yurt and the Tar River that runs by the yurt and the main house.

Apparently Tate is a wonderful teacher of tractor
skills (we already know he's a wonderful teacher!!).
Noah certainly enjoyed his ride!

On to the beds where they have everything
from Asparagus to Zucchini. And some
cover crop for areas they'll plant next year.

On to the sheep that Jon and J.Ed have
rounded up. There are some great food
pellets to feed them. Tasty Ryan?

Time to head back to the house and wash
hands. Tate is cooking bacon to go with
those tomatoes. Lots of other food too!

And right down the hill is the Tar River.
It's pretty low right now because its
been so hot and dry! Not today! The
dogs love it too!

Just as folks were getting off the rocks in the river it started a rain lightly. We headed back to the house, did a quick bathroom run for any who needed it and got to the cars with loaned umbrellas. What a grand morning! Again, our thanks to the wonderful folks at Sassafras Fork Farm!! We came home with bags of tomatoes, cucumbers, eggs and peppers. Good eating the rest of the week!
We got some rain on the way home through Roxboro. Had a little rest and quiet time when we got home to re-energize for the ball game. Called the weather hot line for the Bulls and the field was covered...it was raining pretty hard downtown. By 4:00 when we needed to leave it was clearing up some by us so we piled in the cars and headed out. Still cloudy when we got there, but not raining and within a short time there was blue sky showing :-)

Yea, the tarps up and they're sprinkling
down the baseline while the players warmed
up. We had great seats under the covered
area on the 3rd base line.

Noah made good time.
as did Caleb. Ryan and Colin went with the
first group and we missed them.
Jon and Ann left the game and headed for their hotel (they stayed there Sat and Sun nights) and the rest of the big kids had some conversation and then headed to bed. A really GREAT day! Thanks again to the Halls and Littles!

It was a wonderful ballgame! And, the joy of 5:00 pm games is that they're over before it gets dark. So, we headed home, and everyone stayed awake on the drive home, hopped into jammies and Jill got the honors to read tonight.
