Last Day...

Ah, our last day. We had a very leisurely day, packing, working on pictures, completing the bird and animal list and several wonderful strolls around the grounds. It's been a very successful trip bird-wise - 118 named species, many of them new to our list! And there were many we saw, but never identified. It's a wonderful place for birding! We even got the others a little interested. :-) Thank you Bob and David for your expertise!

On our walk we caught a few more with the camera.
A cute little shrike..
a Crested Hoopoe
and the stunning starlings were everywhere!
One last walk past the gate.

Fred and April attempted to move into their room for the rest of the week. Fred began teaching yesterday and will be here for the next week doing that. After a very pleasant day, we all said our farewells and then headed to the airport. Nick and Laura were heading to Zurich to Frankfurt and then a direct flight to Seattle. We were heading to Brussels to Newark to RDU. It was a pleasant drive through Nairobi as the traffic had settled some. We got to the airport and waited to go through security and then headed for Brussels Air to check in...but found out the flight had been cancelled. Nick and Laura went on through their Swissair line and headed home and we headed over to the help counter. They tried to book us on another flight but they were all full so guided us to a taxi and sent us to a hotel for the night with vouchers and tickets on tomorrow's flight.

The Panari Hotel turned out to be quite nice. They took us to our room, we got a little settled and then headed down to the buffet for dinner-which was excellent. A large selection of meat items on the table :-). After dinner we headed for the business center for a free 4 minute call to let the girls know we wouldn't be leaving until tomorrow night.

Very comfortable bed...
desk for the computer...
refrigerator and plenty of storage...
and a great bathroom!

Had a very good night's sleep. Not what we expected, but hey, it's Kenya!
