Wet Day in Oregon!

Well, we thought it might be a noisy night because of the highway, but that didn't begin to describe our night. Turns out we were about 25' feet from the railroad track. We found that out when a freight train of 125 cars went by as we were cleaning up from dinner last night. I love trains so found that quite charming. However, I have changed my opinion on rolling stock! No fewer than 29 trains went through that night and it seems there was a river access road just down from us where there was a crossing gate so along with the train we got the bells, the tooting whistle and the rumble of the LONG trains and the shaking of the earth as they went by! Not one of Jean's better nights, but John had in his earplugs and only heard a few and went right back to sleep.

Not a train in sight now!!

And, not long after we went to bed the rain started so had the drips again. Was a long night!

However, morning did come and we got up, rolled up the wet tent and headed back to see waterfalls we'd missed in the rush to find this nighttime wonderland. And, they were rushing because of the rain....beautiful!

Horsetail Falls

Multnomah Falls - 620'

Bridal Veil Falls

There were others but we don't want a waterfall overload. We also stopped at the Bonneville Dam and went downstairs to the fish viewing room where they count the fish going up the fish ladders.

Then to the salmon ladder..

then did the Powerhouse Tour where we saw their generators. Was a very interesting tour.

Then down the road to the Fish Hatchery where they catch the salmon, then milk the males and take the eggs from the females and fertilize the eggs and incubate then. As they hatch and grow they move them to different holding tanks and then release them into the Columbia River where they head out to the Pacific and return 3-4 years later to spawn. We then headed up to Hood River where we had visited on a very sunny day last time month with beautiful pictures of Mt. Hood. This was a cloudy one, but we hit a highlight at the Pub at Full Sail Brewing where we had a late lunch. Great place, great amber beer and wonderful burger and fries! On we headed into The Dallas for a night in a motel to dry out the tent. Very fun day despite the Pacific Northwest rainy weather!
