Cookies and fudge and presents!

It's only Dec. 21st - it's never too late to make Cookies and Fudge!!  Gretchen is heading to Richmond tomorrow and needs a nice plate of cookies to take so she came over and we made candy canes, nutmeg logs, gingersnaps and fudge.
Tricky little devils.  We modified the
recipe--added peppermint flavoring
and then crushed peppermint on top...
Amazing.
We also discovered that candy cane
poles work much better than the
candy cane shape.  Less breakage.

It was a most productive day.  We packed up some to take to Williamsburg with us and a good number were packed into us!  Also took some to church on Sunday morning.  Now it feels more like Christmas around here!  Watched Colorado State beat Washington State in the New Mexico Bowl....all our alma maters are in bowl games this year :-) and a ton of ACC teams.  Good football ahead!  Fun day!  Had dinner with Raspberry Salad of course and then opened presents early.
Limited decorating, but adequate and lots of presents!
There were lots of wonderful things under the tree
but the hit of the night was the obi and hanger that
the Bairds gave to Gretchen.  She had wanted one
and Jill had found a wonderful one when we were
there and we brought it back.
It was an antique one of silk brocade with cranes
and Japanese scenes...stunning!  Jill and I would have
both loved it for ourselves!  Nice work Bairds!!
