Heard elk bugling nearby as we were eating breakfast this
morning. 3C but no
wind—still cold fingers and noses even with gloves. A quick stop at the grocery store for ice and
we’re off to Lake Louise.
The mountains along the Icefield Parkway are glorious this morning with fresh new snow and a blue sky with puffy white clouds.
The smaller aspens are turning but not the large tall ones yet. They are much taller than I remember them in Colo.

Then
Tangle Falls-right by the road
then over the Sunwapta Pass and on to the
Icefield Center.
Athabasca Glacier - we were in the shaded area on the Glacier Adventure.
John and Gretchen tried
to do a panorama shot on the upper deck of the center. Light is very hard with snow, clouds and
sunshine.
I went downstairs to see the displays. They had a huge diorama of the Columbia Icefield - this is only a small portion of the model. Very nice. We headed back to the car for hummus, apples, cheese and crackers for lunch...in the car - 4C is a little nippy for a picnic.
Panther Falls
John and
Gretchen headed down the Panther Falls trail from here! Turned out to be beautiful! On to Lake Louise. Got there in sunshine and returned to our K1
campsite we had before and set up the tents and headed for the showers—no
buttons on this one—endless hot water—so hard to turn off!
These mushrooms were on the path to the shower.
Had a little free time to relax. Then into town for a little shopping. Back to the campsite for hamburgers and a
breeze-burr. Back to the high country again! Time to warm up at the
Chateau. We did a little shopping in there while the toes warmed up. Nice shops and prices not horribly
inflated. Home again and quick into
the tents for bed.
