Estero and Sanibel Islands

To the Beach, to the Beach! A cooler day today allowed us to spend some really great time on Estero and Sanibel Islands today. There is a critical wildlife preservation area on Estero Island that wanders through the few surviving mangrove trees and some lagoons. As we walked to the beach to head toward it this Brown Pelican (bottom picture) took off. The other pictures (hard to tell the order) a great egret, sanderling, least tern - they had a huge nesting area there and we were almost dive bombed walking along the edge of it!, little blue heron, Wilson's plover (we think), horseshoe crab, and a mystery crab. We then drove to Sanibel Island where we drove through the "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge Wildlife Drive. It was through a mangrove swamp area and there were lots of cool things there. Saw some Rosea Spoonbills, but nesting and too far away and great tricolor heron sightings! Then there is the ever present Osprey--they are everywhere as are their nests on the tops of man-made poles. We had dinner at Grandma Doc's at the Sanibel Marina--delightful. Great day!
