Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

We headed for Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary this morning. It encompasses the largest remaining stand of old-growth bald cypress on the continent. It was a great walk, but again, the dry weather had a huge impact on the birds and wildlife we didn't see. The Swamp is totally dried up so no gators, waders etc. However, it was a wonderful 2.5 mile boardwalk and we did see quite alot despite the hot and dry weather. Even a little raccoon made an appearance for us. The pictures from bottom up are black vulture, an immature red shoulder hawk, a red bellied woodpecker, a swallow-tailed kite, a wood stork, a raccoon and the white one is a great egret we caught at a water trap on the golf course behind our lodgings. It was a wonderful day, but we ate a quick lunch at a table at the Sanctuary and then headed home....the heat from yesterday and today caught up with us. We did laundry, cleaned memory cards and backed up stuff...so we can do more tomorrow! Off to the beach!
