Music, Music, Music!!

We had a quiet morning at home and then made a return visit to yesterday's lunch visit with Lynn and Dave.  Then headed to the Alamodome for the first day of the Preliminary Competition for the Bands of America Super Regional BOA Championships.  64 bands competing.  They each have 15 minutes to set up, play and exit the field.  It goes like clockwork and is fascinating to watch.  For the prelims there is open seating so we were on the 50 yard line about 10 rows up.  We were here to cheer for the Claudia F. Johnson High School Band where our great niece, Jordan plays the clarinet.
We watched 10 bands tonight.  There had been bands playing all day so we only saw a few of them...and they were on the button for time!  These are not little marching bands, mind you....they have props, flag teams, multiple majorettes and some have hundreds of members.  It was wonderfully entertaining!

There is our Johnson band!  They had 4 acrobats doing stunts on the two big drums - left and center back.  There were four movements of music...notice those nice straight lines!
They really rocked this performance.  Ended up winning the award for General Effect and came in second overall for 4A bands in the preliminaries!  Great job!
We stayed for a couple more bands and then headed home.  VERY entertaining!!
