Kinney Lake Trail

Up early this morning with a quick breakfast and then off to the Berg Lake Trailhead. What a delightful 4.5 km walk up to Kinney Lake! We walked along the rushing greenish Robson River full of glacial water melting from all the heat…it was 84 yesterday!
As you walk through the spruce, aspen, birch forest you get glimpses of Mt. Robson.

There are several side trails to the river and one really cool waterfall along the way.
It was actually an old road so walking was easy and you could really watch the forest for flowers and
mushrooms—hundreds of mushrooms!
The mosses were wonderful as well as the ferns.
Lots of wonderful geology!!
When we got to the Lake the trail split, one to the Picnic Area and the other up the trail to Berg Lake.
We took the Picnic one because it followed the lake and got some beautiful pictures of Mt. Robson & Mt. Resplendent.
There was a tiny island on one side of the lake with a few trees trying to survive.
Gorgeous trail.
The Lake was really high and there were several areas where we had to walk around water…
and on some logs and I slipped when I jumped—wet foot! Fortunately, I had just switched one of the lenses I was carrying to the right hand! That trail met up with the main one so didn’t have to make a return performance! We walked a little way up the trail above but it was very steep and you could only see trees so headed back down.
Awesome!
On the way back there were alot of butterflies "puddling" in the damp areas
as we walked through a wonderful cedar, hemlock forest.
Back to the campground for some lunch, some picture processing, charging of electronics and showers! As we started to head back to the Visitor’s Center for pictures the car wouldn’t start—dead battery. Seems computers really take a lot of battery to charge. There were some wonderful folks three campsites away that came right down with their jumper cables and had us going in no time! Decided it was time for the longer ride so headed to Valemount to charge the battery. There was an A&W there so we decided to eat out—great root beer! While there it poured and when we got back to the campground the tent was just a little wet so they must have had much less. Got the sleeping bags and stuff in the tent and brought in maps etc to plan for the next couple of days. A really delightful day!
